Interview with Vladislav Romanenko: Key Highlights
Vladislav Romanenko has been with the company since 2020, having progressed from a personal service manager to the head of the Bulgarian division. In the interview, he discussed how Scientific Publications is developing in the Bulgarian market, why academic consultancy is becoming increasingly sought-after in the country, and what results have already been achieved since the launch of the full-fledged division at the end of 2024.
One of the central topics of the interview is the most common requests from Bulgarian researchers, relating to publications in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science, improving the Hirsch index, and preparing for doctoral dissertation defences. Vladislav also elaborated on the full range of services the company offers to researchers – from assistance with article formatting and translation to comprehensive support at every stage of the publication process.
Particular attention in the conversation was given to the typical mistakes made by early-career authors and postgraduate students regarding publications in academic journals. As Vladislav himself noted:
"Many young academics do not account for the fact that the entire process takes time. If things are left to the last minute, there is a risk of missing deadlines and having to postpone one's defence. I would therefore strongly advise confirming the topic with one's academic supervisor as early as possible and preparing materials in a systematic manner."
He also shared practical advice on planning publication activity from the very outset of one's academic career, and explained how to overcome the obstacles that commonly arise at this stage effectively.
The interview also touched on the company's educational activities, the challenges of building up the Bulgarian division, and plans for the near future. In particular, Vladislav spoke about the company's work with universities and academic institutions, the organisation of free webinars for researchers, as well as the ambitious plans to open a fully operational physical office in Sofia, in order to provide researchers with even more prompt and convenient on-site support.
