Bulgarian National H-index Ranking updated for Q4 2024

The Bulgarian National H-index Ranking was updated in the fourth quarter of 2024. In this article, we will review what changes have taken place in the Bulgarian National H-index Ranking. 

The Bulgarian National H-index Ranking – is an independent international ranking whose main task is to assess the scientific productivity of both individual scientists and entire research and educational institutions. 

In order to objectively evaluate scientific activity, the system uses h-index indicators from the most authoritative databases, namely: Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Based on this data, ranking lists of the best research institutions, educational institutions, and scientists are formed, and the value of the national Hirsch index is displayed.

Functions of the Bulgarian National H-index Ranking

• measuring the scientific productivity of scientists, research and educational institutions in Bulgaria;
• stimulating competition between scientists;
• identification of priority research areas for the distribution of grant proposals;
• analysing Bulgaria's scientific achievements in the national and international context.

It helps to identify trends in the development of science in Bulgaria and to celebrate the achievements of the scientific community at the international and national levels. The ranking motivates organisations, universities and researchers to be fruitful in their research activities, promoting innovation and improving the quality of scientific work.

Based on data from reputable scientometric databases such as Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar, the ranking allows comparing the performance of different institutions and researchers. This helps to monitor the success of the scientific community and strengthen Bulgaria's position in the international scientific community, as well as to identify priority areas for investment in science and education.
