The international ranking National H-index Ranking has published the results of the assessment of the productivity and performance of Bulgarian research and educational institutions in Q2 2025. Today, we will tell you which universities are in the top 10 according to the results of the assessment.
Bulgarian National H-index Ranking
The Bulgarian National H-index Ranking updates its data twice a year – in the second and fourth quarter. The ranking is based on the Hirsch index from databases and platforms such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar.

A total of 44 educational institutions were evaluated for the ranking.
In the second quarter of 2025, all the universities in the TOP 10 showed an increase in the national Hirsch index compared to the results of the fourth quarter of 2024. The best results include:
- Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ with a score of +8.
- Medical University of Sofia with a score of +6.
- Medical University of Varna and Medical University of Plovdiv with a score of +3.
At the same time, some universities have improved their positions. Thus, Medical University of Varna, Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, Trakia University, University of Forestry and New Bulgarian University have each risen one place.
