How to obtain a scientific degree or academic title in the field of military sciences?
The main regulatory document governing the awarding of scientific degrees and academic titles in Bulgaria is the Law on the Development of Academic Personnel in the Republic of Bulgaria. It entered into force in 2010 and has been amended several times since then, the latest of which was published on 18 March 2025. The law establishes both general principles of certification and minimum national requirements for various scientific fields, including the field of military sciences.
In order to obtain a doctoral degree, an applicant must complete doctoral studies, successfully pass the examinations stipulated in the curriculum and defend a thesis. In addition, proof of scientific qualification through academic achievements is a prerequisite. These include publications in peer-reviewed publications indexed in international databases (Scopus, Web of Science), publication of monographs and scientific books, patents, copyrights, and a high citation index (H-index).
How to achieve a high H-index – we told in the previous article.
